Asian
Studies |
|
| I'm not sure how or why, but this
broad field of study really piqued my interest at some point
of my undergrad college career. I have taken formal classes
in the history and culture of China, Japan, Vietnam and
Korea. I have also taken courses on Southeast Asian
Religions. I speak a little bit of Korean (read/write) and
am studying the Thai language. |

| Since
that time of my initial interest I've spent countless hours
reading and studying anything that helps me better understand
this very different part of the world and the culture of those
who live there. Part of my self-study includes travel to Asia
whenever possible. Asian Studies is a very broad area
covering many different countries. Beyond the superficial I
have chosen to focus my studies on Korea, Thailand and
the Southeast Asian Countries of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
I have studied China and Japan in so far as to know their
history and religions. I've also studied the Japanese work
ethic. Eventually I'll expand my studies to include Burma
(Myanmar), Malaysia and Singapore as well.
So what is this page about?
Right now this simply explains what I am studying
and the specific areas that I choose to study. I will include
the following items on this page to help others gain an
interest in this fascinating field of study:
- Links to articles that I find interesting
- Book reading list
If I eventually decide to pursue a degree in this field I
will include papers that I may write on this page.
As with my entire web-site this section of my web-site is a
work-in-progress. I hope you enjoy it! I am always available
for questions, feedback or suggestions.
